5 Ways to be fab on a budget!

There are ways that you can live a fabulous life, even when your bank account says otherwise.  CheapStuff would like to show you that with a little creativity, your money can go a long way.

Here’s how:

1) Organize a Clothing Swap

We have all done it.  We buy something at a store, then take it home and realize we don’t like it as much as we thought.  Maybe you were given a piece of clothing as a gift, but it just isn’t your style.  How about that cocktail dress you were photographed in, you might not want to wear that again.

Chances are that you and your friends have clothing that you rarely wear, if ever.  Gather up those rarely worn duds and organize a clothing swap.  Your friends will do the same, and you can swap for new styles.

2.  Make the most of what you have

If you have a few signature pieces in basic colors you can do a lot with them.  You can dress them up with belts, accessories, shoes, and so on.  You can take a black dress, and make it look entirely different with a few accessories.

3.  Use the Web to your advantage

There are a variety of ways to save online.  Use CheapStuff to help you scan through thousands of discounted items.  Used, or new, you will find the lowest prices on the items you desire on CheapStuff.com.

4. They want Feedback

Big companies like hearing from consumers.  Write your favorite brands, and get ready to receive free samples of your favorite goods.

5. Get it done by a student

Do you have an event coming up?  It might be time to touch up those roots.  If you need to get your hair or make-up done, contacting a beauty school is a great way to go.  Even massage parlors charge less when you opt for a student.  Pay way less for the services you need to relax and look fabulous.

Save on consumer products this year

Yahoo recently published an article describing which products go on sale each month.  Here’s what they came up with, we hope it helps you save this year:

March:

March is a great month for saving on digital cameras, humidifiers, MP3 players, DVD and BLU-ray players, TVs, winter coats, and winter sports gear.  All the recent rain has kept the mountains full of snow, so you will probably be able to snowboard well into May.  Get your winter sports gear on sale and hit the slopes!

April:

If your laptop or desktop has recently crashed, relief may come soon.  In April computers go on sale, so you will finally be able to replace your outdated version.  Digital cameras and lawn mowers are also on sale in April.  You might be surprised to find out that spring clothing goes on sale in April.  Clothing stores tend to stock clothing for the season to come.  When spring arrives they begin to get ready for summer, making it the perfect time to stock up on spring fashions.

May:

Just in time to get in shape for summer, athletic apparel and shoes go on sale in May.  You can also pick up a tent and other camping gear for a summer vacation for much less during this month.  Cordless phones, lawn mowers, and small consumer electronics also go on sale in May.

June/July:

Record your summer vacation with a discounted camcorder.  Indoor furniture, outdoor furniture, summer sports gear and swimwear also go on sale in June.  You can pick up a cute patio set for your 4th of July party, and pick up a swimsuit while you’re at it.

August:

In the hottest month of the year, find savings on air conditioners, backpacks, dehumidifiers, lawn mowers, outdoor furniture and snow throwers.

September:

In September you can beautify your lawn or courtyard with shrubbery.  Shrubs, trees, perennials and lawn mowers all go on sale this month.

October:

As summer comes to an end, save on a gas grill.  You will also find bikes, computers, digital cameras, lawn mowers, and winter coats on sale this month.  Pick up a snowboarding jacket early, and save hundreds.

November:

If you give birth in November, or no someone who is expecting soon, you can save on baby products throughout this month.  GPS navigators, toys, and TVs also go on sale, so start your Christmas shopping early this year.

December:

As Christmas approaches stores start slashing prices.  You can save on TVs, toys, electronics, small consumer, home appliances, GPS navigators, gas grills and bikes.  Take advantage of great deals, and get someone you love the perfect Christmas gift this year.

How to help for less

The world has been hit with a few natural disasters recently, leaving thousands of people without food, water or shelter.  Many of these communities are in need of your help.

In these hard economic times, finding the money to help others is difficult.  How do you put the needs of people you have never met ahead of your own family?  You may think that your small effort won’t do much, but you would be wrong.  Even the smallest gesture towards one person, can make a huge difference.

You can make an impact for little to no money at all.  If you want to help those suffering from the recent earthquakes in Chile and Haiti, here are a few ways to do so at a minimal cost to you:

1) Donate to Habitat for Humanity

The people at Habitat for Humanity are collecting donations to help those who have been affected by the earthquake in Chile.  When you follow the link, you will be taken to the Habitat home page where you can submit a donation of whatever amount you choose.  Every little bit will help them rebuild homes for disaster victims.

2)  Give Blood

Many victims were seriously injured in the recent 8.8 earthquake that hit Chile.  By donating blood you could save a life.  Visit the Red Cross website to learn where you can donate.

3)  Donate to the Salvation Army

Lightly used clothing, furniture, and other items are all accepted at the Salvation Army.  They are gathering items to send to the victims of the recent disaster.  You can either drop your items off at the local Salvation Army or call 1-800-95-TRUCK, to have them picked up.

4) Donate canned goods

Local churches and organizations are collected canned goods to send over to victims.  Go through your cupboard today and see what you can spare.
