They are the most effective scanners because they usually are able to read most barcodes in one swipe. CCD barcode scanners are the easiest to use and work over 90% of the time if they're well-cared for. This is why they are considered the industry standard. The barcode scanners available nowadays have many different features. They usually have laser diodes on the end of the scanner head. The beam that reads the barcode is sent through a series of mirrors. What looks like a single red light is actually more than one light projected all at once. When the barcode scanner is mounted on a stand it is in the primary position to read any barcode that passes in front of it. Sometimes when people hold the scanner; they don't hold it at the appropriate angle to read the barcode effectively. This can cause a delay in barcode reading. A mounted scanner will usually be more convenient for the employee using it. The employee's hands are free to do other things and the checkout or scanner session is much quicker. Barcode imagers are the latest type of barcode scanner. They read barcodes that have the ability to store 3000 bytes of information in the same amount of space as a regular barcode. Barcode imagers are a great new advancement in barcode software; but they are not compatible with older scanner systems. Barcode imagers can be compared to digital cameras in functionality.
