Using CD and DVD burners to create discs, is a common practice today, and there are many different kinds of discs that can be created. Though there are only three types of discs available for purchase, CD, DVD, and Blue Ray, each of these discs can be used in many different ways. These discs can be used as data storage discs, where the information is only available when the disc is run on the computer. These discs can also be used for the media they were designed for, CDs for music, and DVDs for movies. CD and DVD burners are able to handle both kinds of discs and can now be found in most computers as standard equipment. If your computer does not have this sort of hardware built in you can purchase external CD and DVD burners. Though if you want one that will do both you must make sure to purchase one that does say it will burn both kinds of discs. Some people might want to augment their existing CD and DVD burners by including an external drive that may create the discs faster than the original one that came with the computer. Modern CD and DVD burners can create disks as speeds that were impossible five years ago, thanks to advents in technology and the processing power of newer computers. When drives that could read CD first came out the technology didn't exist to but CD and DVD burners together. Originally the technology could only read both, not create both. Many companies today sell CD and DVD burners that you can purchase. Most companies even make different ones depending on what you want to do with the drive. You can purchase external CD and DVD burners that normally connect to your computer through a USB cord. Then there are CD and DVD burners that can be installed directly into the tower of your computer, replacing the original drive, or adding a secondary drive.
