Concentrators and multiplexors
The contemporary business world revolves around the concept of networking, even within a single office. Coworkers need to participate in file sharing and their various tasks need to be completed A.S.A.P. Two decades ago, business transactions took place over days, weeks, and even months. Today, companies simply cannot afford to wait, which is why concentrators have become a workplace staple. These devices combine numerous communications channels into one, which allows multiple computers to run on the same Local Area Network, among other things. These make it possible for companies with remote locations or satellite offices to share data as if the employees were mere steps away from one another as opposed to miles apart. An Ethernet hub is an example of a concentrator as is a virtual private network (VPN). This process is similar to desk top sharing in that it enables colleagues and clients to view identical information in real time. VPNs offer companies secure file sharing, decreased transportation costs, and increased employee productivity.
