Although you can always scan the floppy disk before using, it is very easy for an infected floppy disk to transfer viruses to your computer via the floppy drive hence most people avoid using them. Floppy drives when maintained properly can be long lasting. Furthermore, floppy disks have become cheap and reduced to favorable sizes though you cannot compare them with others such as flash disk drives. Modern floppy drives are designed easy to maintain since most of them are not affected by dirt easily.
