When you get out of the shower and turn on the blow dryer, you are using an electronic device. When you go for a jog and listen to that CD player or iPod, you are using an electronic device.
Needless to say, you get the point. Electronics are used for things that we consider fairly simple, but when you really think hard about it, the idea of electronic devices is pretty extraordinary.
Have you ever thought about what it takes to run all of those electronic devices we use on a regular basis? Ever thought about the technology necessary to make them operate safely and effectively? Or about the money saved and spent while they are or are not in use? Next time you turn a hallway light on, take a second to think about these things. The thought may just astound you, even though you probably take it for granted that you flip the switch and the light turns on. Underneath, however, there are many things going on electronically. Wires doing there work, electricity flowing through them and causing the light to turn on, and allowing you to see in a room that would otherwise be dark, unless you went the old fashioned, more dangerous, and inconvenient route of lighting candles or kerosene lamps. Electronics are a powerful thing. They allow the world to go round at phenomenal speeds, keep people connected to people all around the earth, whether they are thousands of miles away, or down the hallway in the same office building, or two blocks away at a friend's house. Electronics play a vital role in keeping the world up to speed and allow for new technologies and thus new technologies to be created. The computer allows the inventor to chart and save the layout for the new piece of technology they are going to create. The electronic soldering tool is used to help the electronic computer pieces be soldered together so that they can do their job and keep things running smoothly. This is not to say that electronics don't have their drawbacks, because they certainly do. They can cause fires, malfunction, cost a lot of money, make people disconnect themselves from the real world, and cause a lot of other problems in the world. Overall though, electronics have made it possible for the world to advance and become more technologically savvy. Without them, think about where the world would be today.
