Overview: migraines

Millions of people suffer from migraine headaches in the United States alone. A migraine headache is just like a regular headache to the extreme. A person who has a migraine can suffer side effects such as vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, dizziness, depression, lack of appetite, sleeplessness, and extreme irritability. There is a wide variety of problems that can cause a migraine. Certain types of diseases and illnesses, eye problems, stress, medications, and allergies are a few of the likely culprits. If you find yourself suffering from migraines there are only a few options for you. You can try over the counter pain medicine but they will probably do very little to ease your pain. It will be like taking an aspirin for a broken neck. It just is not strong enough to do you much good. There are medications that your doctor can prescribe to help you with your migraine headaches but these can have some dangerous side effects. One of the most common things to worry about with prescription pain medicine is becoming dependent or addicted to it. There are some things that you can do at home to help relieve you from your misery. These are home remedies that people have trusted for many years. One thing that you can do is use hot and cold compresses. The easiest way that you can do this is by soaking in a hot bath. If the light seems to make your migraine worse you can do this in the dark or by candle light. Immerse yourself in the hot water and keep a pan of ice cold water nearby. You will need two washcloths. One you will keep in the hot water and the other in the cold.

Alternately place one washcloth on your head and then the other, keeping each one on for only a few minutes at a time. You will find that after several repetitions your head will feel somewhat better. Another thing that you can do is drink hot peppermint tea with honey. An all natural tea with natural ingredients is the best. This is a home remedy that has been used and recommended by doctors for hundreds of years. You could try both of these things in unison to try to relieve your head. Sip your hot tea while soaking in the bathtub with a washcloth over your eyes. This is sure to give you at least some relief.
